  • SELP offers a rich menu of study programs that includes Master’s in Systems Engineering programs in 6 technical focus areas, 3 graduate certificate programs, and a Master’s in Healthcare Systems Engineering. A seventh MS program in Systems Engineering with Technical Focus in Cybersecurity will soon be offered.
  • LMU is ranked #3 among comprehensive universities in the Western Region by the US and World News Report.
  • LMU SELP is among the top 10 systems engineering programs in the U.S. in terms of the number of study options (Technical Focus options, MS degree options, dual MS/MBA degree option and modular certificate options), as well as the number of Systems Engineering courses offered.
  • LMU is the coordinating center and leader of the new field of Lean Systems Engineering. 
    • In 2010, the International Council on Systems Engineering bestowed the prestigious Best Product Award to an LMU-led international team of 14 experts from academia, industry, and governments, supported by a 200-member Working Group, for developing a comprehensive set of practices leading to improved execution of Systems Engineering programs. These practices save program time and cost while improving quality and customer satisfaction. 
    • The book "Lean for Systems Engineering with Lean Enablers for Systems Engineering," (B.W. Oppenheim, Wiley, 2011) was published by LMU faculty. The work also received the 2010 Shingo Award for Best Research and Publication. The same author published chapters in four other books and several journal papers on Lean.  
  • LMU’s unique advanced Lean courses teach Lean in program and project management, manufacturing, healthcare operations, supply chain, product development, systems engineering, final engineering, administration, banking, and accounting. 
  • LMU Faculty helped lead a joint INCOSE-Project Management Institute MIT LAI project that developed Lean Enablers for Managing Engineering Programs to integrate Lean aspects of Program Management with Systems Engineering. The group published the highly praised Guide to Lean Enablers for Managing Engineering Programs. It was awarded the Shingo Award in 2013. 
  • The unique Master’s Degree in Healthcare Systems Engineering program developed in cooperation with high-ranking executives at Kaiser Permanente helps to solve the biggest challenges of healthcare industry. The Graduate Certificate in Lean Healthcare Systems has received accolades from the first cohorts of students who are Directors and Managers of Kaiser Permanente Laboratories. Read the Details.
  • All courses combine academic rigor with practical focus. All faculty in the SELP programs have extensive industrial leadership experience in the top national aerospace companies. Most faculty members have served in leadership positions at some of the largest space and healthcare programs in the nation.
  • LMU SELP programs have graduated numerous engineers from Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, the US Air Force and its support contractors, Aerospace Corporation, and several commercial firms.  Our alumni now serve in leadership positions such as Chief Systems Engineer, Vice President, and Director of major aerospace and medical institutions.  
  • The program offers an option of a dual degree MS in Systems Engineering and MBA that is rarely found at other universities. The LMU part-time MBA program has been ranked number 3 in the West and number 13 nationally.  
  • The LMU Entrepreneurship program has been honored with top national awards and recognitions.
  • The program is directed at working professionals and features a flexible curriculum that can be tailored to the needs of the student and includes an option to focus in the standard engineering disciplines.
