Health Professions Advising Office
The Health Professions Advising Office (HPAO) was created in 2008 to better serve the increasing needs of LMU students seeking future careers in the health professions. Our goal is to start giving the students the best information from the moment they decide to attend LMU so that by the time they apply they are the ideal candidate. It is also our challenge to make sure students develop the life skills necessary to be successful in professional school in the health sciences.
HPAO offers:
- Individualized advising to students about courses necessary for admission to professional school
- informal workshops, seminars, and trainings
- professional development opportunities to prepare students for professional school
- connections to local professionals for clinical exposure
- application assistance to professional school in the health sciences
- formalized application evaluation for students applying to medical and dental student
Health science professional schools are seeking students who go beyond academic success.
Students must be able to demonstrate:
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- technical knowledge about the sciences
- skills to work well in the lab & clinical setting
- professionalism
- leadership
- equanimity under stress
LMU's Jesuit mission is built into the fabric of our education, and opportunities for service to society abound on campus and in the community.
These opportunities help pre-health students:
- demonstrate altruism
- develop good moral values
- foster a sense of duty to society
