Laboratory Support Technician, Mechanical Engineering
Engineering Design Center 102
Joe mainly works in the newly renovated Engineering Design Center behind Doolan Hall. He will be a valuable resource for students working on their Capstone Projects, helping to advise and approve mechanical designs before fabrication. Design for efficient manufacturing is a key focus in this effort. His vast experience in precision machining will be a resource for students in this area as well. Joe will train students on equipment, provide research project, and hold CAD workshops to help fine tune CAD concepts for efficiency and robustness.
Joe comes to LMU with over 40 years of outside workforce manufacturing experience, with more than 30 of those years focused on precision mechanical designs using 3D CAD software such as the advanced industry leading Unigraphics NX CAD software. He managed the complete process of his complex designs, taking them from concept to full production. Throughout his career he has worked at multiple companies that produced widely varied products. From High Performance Specialty Fasteners for many Specialized Military Aircraft, to electronic contacts used in connectors, to the connectors themselves.
His last position was product launch manager responsible for taking products from concept through to completion in the high precision world of fiber optics connectors. Here he mentored three recent LMU master's graduates in precision mechanical design. All of the companies that Joe has worked for rely on precision tooling to manufacture their products and Joe played key roles contributing to the success of these companies. He has become very much sought after in the industry but has decided to spend this time in his career to help grow the mechanical engineers of our future. He is very excited to have this opportunity to help here at LMU. Joe's outside interests include: guitars, water sports, photography, cycling, golf, hiking and other outdoor activities.
