International Student Resources and FAQs
International students are welcome to explore our Seaver College Graduate Programs in Science and Engineering. To begin the application process, start your Graduate Online Application.
APPLICATION REQUREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
Review the general graduate application requirements. In addition to these and the program-specific admission requirements, international applicants must submit the following documentation during the application process:
TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo Scores
Applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Duolingo English Test unless they received a high school diploma or a bachelor's degree in the United States. Exceptions to this rule may be made for students from countries where English is one of several official languages, as well as at the discretion of the Office of the Dean. Seaver College of Science and Engineering requires:
- A minimum score of 79 for the internet based TOEFL
- IELTS Overall Band Score of 6.5
- Duolingo English test score of 105-110.
For TOEFL submissions, please request that ETS sends your scores to LMU Graduate Admissions. The Institution Code for LMU is 4403. Please contact SeaverGraduateAdmission@lmu.edu for any questions.
Transcript Evaluations
Applicants who have completed their postsecondary education from an institution outside the U.S. must hold a degree from a university recognized by the Ministry of Education as a degree-granting institution. Transcripts from an international institution must be translated (course-by-course evaluation identifying your GPA is required) and evaluated by a U.S. transcript evaluation service (e.g., Educational Credential Evaluators, International Education Research Foundation or World Education Services) verifying the equivalency of your postsecondary degree in the U.S.. Official transcript evaluations will be required during admission review process.

STEM DESIGNATIONS
International students enrolled in STEM-designated programs may be eligible for additional Optional Practical Training. The following Seaver College graduate program are STEM-designated:
- M.S.E. in Civil Engineering
- M.S.E. in Computer Engineering
- M.S. in Computer Science
- M.S.E. in Electrical Engineering
- M.S. in Environmental Science
- M.S.E. in Healthcare Systems Engineering
- M.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering
If your program of interest is not listed, it is currently not STEM-designated. Contact the Office of International Students and Scholars further questions regarding STEM designations and OPT offerings.
