Shonnu Ba Thaung, Mechanical Engineering major and Applied Mathematics minor
I truly value the four years that I’ve spent at LMU. As I look back and reflect on where I began and where I’m going, I am proud to say that Seaver gave me the resources necessary to succeed. EFH, LoyolaMARS, undergraduate research, and internships helped prepare me for life after graduation.
Some of my most fond memories were going on volunteer trips to Mexico and building ramps all day for medical facilities. Engineering for Humanity has allowed many students in Seaver to give back to less fortunate communities and I am proud to say that I was a part of that.
LoyolaMARS is important to me because it allowed me to gain relevant knowledge in the industry I want to work in. Generational projects such as the liquid‐fueled rocket can be the cornerstone of an engineering program so I am also proud to have contributed to that.
The undergraduate research opportunities in Seaver, specifically under Professor Es‐Said, gave me relevant industry experience that helped me land an internship at Moog Aircraft Group. At Moog I was able to apply many principles from my studies to assist wherever I could.
The knowledge and experience that I gained through my time at LMU has helped me pursue my dream of working in the space industry. I am thankful to say that after graduation, I will be working in El Segundo at Boeing Satellite Systems.
